Job Description
Perform duties to assemble and test electronic, optical and mechanical assemblies in support of the manufacturing of laser based metrology equipment. Work is done to precise specifications following controlled work instructions in an ISO environment, and working within the limits of standard and accepted practices.
1. Work from controlled documentation including production work instructions, checklists, diagrams, schematics, and/or drawings.
2. Receive electronic, optical and mechanical components and sub:assemblies for manufacturing, diagnostic or testing tasks.
3. Work with and install free air optics, fiber optics, cables, and mechanical
components/assemblies to very tight tolerances, and test in accordance with controlled procedures.
4. Continuously inspect material for cosmetic defects and conduct any range of functional tests at prescribed intervals to ensure proper operation of various components during assembly. Use test fixtures in conjunction with computer programs, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes or other prescribed test equipment. Report significant deviations from standard to engineering for review, instruction and authorization.
5. Identify, recognize and document nonconforming parts and request guidance as to when minor modification will allow utilization. Troubleshoot routine problems and make repairs or adjustments as directed. Notify engineering of failures during assembly or to determine remedy for unusual assembly issues. Perform routine assembly repairs and rework as required.
6. Disassemble failed units as required and determine extent of repair required. Rework as required to ensure proper operation and compliance with specifications.
7. Prepare documentation and maintain computerized records as required. Perform visual inspection of assembly and forward assembly and appropriate documentation for subsequent operations.
8. Perform routine preventative maintenance to tools and equipment as required.
Other Duties May Include:
1. Perform or assist with any departmental operations, as required or directed to maintain workflow and meet production schedules and requirements.
2. Maintain safe work areas and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules.
3. Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements and policies.
4. Recommend revisions to control documentation such as production work instructions, checklists, operating procedures and policy manuals. Make and propose modifications as required in a dynamic continuous improvement environment.

AS in Mechanical, Electronic or Optical Engineering, plus 2 yrs. experience in small parts assembly or equivalent experience. Familiarity with electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and spectrum analyzers, and ESD safety/prevention equipment. Excellent computer skills including MS Office. High degree of manual dexterity. High level of motivation, energy and organization. Ability to multitask.
