Job Summary 13;
The research is focused on identifying, validating, and testing novel targets for immune:based treatment approaches for the pediatric cancer neuroblastoma and further examining the role of these genes in neuroblastoma tumorigenesis and in other pediatric cancers. Candidate participates in a planned research project by performing research protocols and contributes both scientifically and intellectually. Works under the mentorship of Dr. Kris Bosse and Dr. John Maris, an early:career and a well:established investigator respectively, to conduct translational research focused on childhood cancers. Works independently and self:directed with guidance from the principal investigator. Develops new experimental procedures and hypotheses for further investigation and helps the principle investigator publish research results. Assists with the management of laboratory operations. Collaborates and interacts with other researchers within the laboratory, institution and at other institutions. Needs a specialized education in the biological or chemical sciences and is required to consistently exercise discretion and judgment in execution, interpretation of experiments, and of data derived. Diverse molecular biology, genomic, and in vitro and in vivo laboratory techniques will be employed. The ideal candidate with have some laboratory experience with techniques such as cell culture, RNA purification, PCR, cloning, Western blotting, in vitro functional assays, and flow cytometry. Experience working with mouse models would also be a plus. At least a 2 year commitment is required.
Job Responsibilities 13;
* Performs routine tests independently * Performs research procedures on experimental samples as directed * Records all experimental details and checks results for completeness and accuracy * Assists with planning specific research protocols and procedures * Demonstrates initiative and dedication to the experimental work * Maintains office, lab area, reagents, supplies and equipment * Coordinates schedules of tests and procedures * Records results, organizes data and maintains lab notebook in an organized manner
* Attends courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques * Participates and presents in regular laboratory meetings * Displays dedication and commitment to the work
Required Education and Experience 13;
:Associates degree, 9 : 18 months laboratory experience required
:Relevant Internship experience considered 13;
Preferred Education, Experience and Cert/Lic 13;
* Bachelors Degree preferred with some prior research experience * Ability to perform assigned tasks independently * Able to work accurately, work well with others, and pay strict attention to detail* Must be adaptable to do work which is varied, and requires an intellectual and professional approach * Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
