About the Job

The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the administrative and technical operations of the medical laboratory for a large hospital in Southern New Jersey.

They will monitor supply utilization, test analysis and specimen integrity, monitor scheduling, training, identification of performance improvement opportunities, evaluate and support staff as needed. Responsible for the efficient work flow of the laboratory; works an assigned technical bench as necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Analyzes and resolves problems independently; communicates decisions to the Manager, Director and/ or Medical Director.

• Is proactive; fosters action steps to solve problems considered high-risk, long-term and /or linked to broad organizational problems.

• Demonstrates respect for diverse groups of people; works cooperatively and effectively to achieve results.

• Verbal and written communications are timely, consistently appropriate, clear and accurate.

• Integrates knowledge of hospital into operational and patient problem solving activities; networks and builds alliances with others to problem solve and accomplish tasks.

• Is responsible for the development, maintenance and administration of up to date policies, procedures and guidelines.

• Is knowledgeable of and monitors compliance with hospital policies, procedures and guidelines.

• Serves as a resource and positive role model to staff.

• Maintains confidentiality about staff and institutional matters.

• Develops solutions that reflect outside the box thinking and teamwork.

• Anticipates potential problems; develops means to prevent them.

• Displays courage in problem and pressure situations; utilizes information and resources; takes decisive action.

• Promotes open communication within the department.

• Holds staff accountable for resolving interpersonal issues promptly between the individuals involved.

• Coaches others to gain insight into their behavior; guides staff to properly manage their response to conflict.

• Collaborates with support services to provide a safe, clean and secure environment.

• Uses ethical principles to guide decisions and actions
