Job Summary 13;
Collects and maintains clinical research data and obtains the required specimens from patients. The Research Assistant independently screens and consents subjects for entry into the required protocol. He/She will maintain knowledge of appropriate computer systems and enter data into study databases. The Research Assistant must frequently interact with the Physician Investigators and report on the conduct of the assigned protocol. He/She also will have daily contact with other physicians, nurses, patients and their families.

1. Collect and maintain study data as required for specific clinical research protocols (90)
:Function independently in patient care areas including the Operating Room, the outpatient ambulatory areas, Inpatient and Outpatient care units, and the Emergency Room to collect specific study data
:Utilize appropriate resources, including the Clinical Research Manager, to collect data accurately and completely.
:Complete data collection forms as required for the study in a timely manner.
:Enter information in computer databases for the study in a timely manner
:Provide information on the data collected to appropriate persons as directed.
:Provide timely information to the Principal Investigator on the progress of data collection for the study.
:Communicate any difficulties or problems in collecting data as prescribed immediately to the Clinical Research Manager or the Principal Investigator.
:Collect, process, and deliver biologic specimens.

2. Assist with quality improvement activities as related to research protocols (5)
:Help to develop systems by which quality becomes continuous
:Perform chart and data reviews to assess compliance of data with IRB and other regulatory agencies
:Report results to Clinical Research Manager and/or Principal Investigator.

3. Further own professional development (5)
:Participate in preparation and presentation of research within the Department and the Institution.
:Attend Department research conferences
:Maintain relationships that foster multidisciplinary research

Required Education and Experience 13;
:Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.:/h4:
:Graduate from a high school or GED.:/h4:
:One year of work experience, preferably in a medical office setting. 13;
Preferred Education, Experience and Cert/Lic 13;
:Pediatric experience preferred
:Medical Assistant Certificate preferred

Additional Technical Requirements 13;
:Demonstrated interest in medical research:/h1:
:General knowledge of PC:based spreadsheet and database software (Microsoft Excel and Access)
:Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
:Ability to function as part of a team to meet the general needs of the organization within the uniform and job specific standards as outlined herein 13;
