The Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia is currently recruiting a full:time clinical Genetic Counselor to join the Section of Metabolic Disease. The primary responsibility will be the provision of comprehensive genetic counseling services to patients and families with inborn errors of metabolism and connective tissue disorders. We provide diagnostic and follow:up care in a busy outpatient clinic, including an active newborn screening facility for the states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. The repertoire of disease is highly varied, including all disorders of intermediary metabolism (urea cycle defects, organic acidemias, PKU, amino acidurias, etc), mitochondrial disease, lysosomal storage diseases and connective tissue disorders. We also care for one of the worlds largest multispecialty clinics for patients with Williams syndrome.
Job Responsibilities 13;
:Clinical: Review patient information and family history, coordinate diagnostic and genetic testing, patient/family education, interpret genetic test results, psychosocial counseling, follow:up. Work closely with physicians/geneticists, residents/fellows, nurses, dieticians and other genetic counselors.
:Education: Supervise genetic counseling students, assist in the training of medical genetics residents/fellows, participation in biochemical education, presentations of cases/journal clubs at community Genetics rounds, as well as within our division
:Research: We encourage participation in research projects, writing research manuscripts and presenting at national meetings. 13;
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations 13;
Genetic Councelor License : PA 13;
Board:Eligible/ Certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (Entry) 13;
Required Education and Experience 13;
:Masters degree in Human Genetics and Genetic Counseling from an ACGC Accredited Program is required.
:According to the CMS (Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services) a copy of diploma or transcript is required as proof of academic achievement for all non:laboratory personnel performing non:waived POC testing 13;
Preferred Education, Experience and Cert/Lic 13;
Additional Technical Requirements 13;
Demonstrated ability in counseling, skills, techniques and other related areas.
Subject to pressure related to emergency clinical problems.
Must have a high degree of flexibility of skills and hours.
:Prior experience with clinical data or research data is preferred. 13;
