GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for the design, analysis, configuration, testing, and support of data communications networks that support control systems (machinery and ship controls) and navigation message distribution. PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:Plans network requirements, layouts and configures systems to user environments and requirements. Analyzes network topologies, traffic, and capacity requirements. Meets and maintains communication with system owners to determine requirements and report system design and testing progress.Documents and maintains system configuration documentation.Develops and implements testing strategies, plans, procedures, and documents tegrates hardware and software to the network design that facilitate reliability and resiliency such as security controls, power backups, redundant networking, and network management systems Installs, configures, and verifies system designs at the end user locations.Provides technical support, troubleshooting, and training to end users. Supports the acquisition of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services as needed. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.Participates in special projects as required.Develops and maintains desktop and embedded applications, for the purpose of increasing accuracy and efficiency of configuration management, testing and data gathering and performance analysis.Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Engineering discipline.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:2:5 years of directly related experience in network analysis and design.1:3 years of experience with networking equipment installation and configuration.1 or more years of experience developing desktop or embedded software applications. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Comprehensive knowledge of routers, switches, patch panels, multi:mode/single:mode fiber, Cat 5, 6 or 7 cabling, and related network hardware and prehensive knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, and tools used in network design, testing, troubleshooting and support.Proficiency in creating and maintaining technical documentation.Proficiency in the configuration and administration of Network Management Systems (NMS)Knowledge of information security principles and best practices.Knowledge of the TCP/IP suite and networking principles, and analysis.Knowledge of desktop operating systems and applications.Knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including modern development methodologies (AGILE / SCRUM), and best practices. Strong written and verbal communication skills.Experience supporting end users. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: Working knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle, with AGILE development experience utilizing Microsoft .NET for Desktop Applications (C)Required: experience developing embedded software in high:level languages, preferably .NETMF (C)Security+ CertificationCisco or Alcatel networking equipment experienceExperience using SPIRENT Test Center, and SmartBitsExperience configuring and maintaining Network Monitoring Systems (i.e. Alcatel OmniVista or CA Spectrum)Experience with multicast routing protocols, preferably PIM:DM implemented with OSPF. WORKING CONDITIONS:The work is typically performed in an office/lab environment and shipboard on Navy vessels, which requires proper safety precautions; work may require some physical effort in the handling of materials, boxes or equipment. Work may require up to 30 travel.
